Yikes! Can you believe February is already here!? I feel like January just flew by. I was really sick at the beginning of the month and so I didn’t make as much progress and I would have liked on my mountainous New Year to-do list. I feel like I’ve been running to catch up ever since.
We had a pretty low-key month actually. My boys started playing basketball. They play on the same team in the 4/5 league, which is super convenient. It’s also super hysterical. There’s minimal dribbling. Lots of shooting and minimal scoring. I don’t think either of my boys will be a basketball phenom. No NBA for us!
Here are a few little updates about what’s going on behind the scenes right now!
New Year’s Resolution Update: Remember in the New Year edition of Shellie Unplugged I told you my New Year’s resolution was to be nicer to myself? I have a list of things I want to do for myself this year and my goal is to tackle one thing each month. So for January, I got my ears pierced!
Around three years ago I was wearing some gold hoop earrings at a wedding. James was about a year old. He grabbed onto my earring and pulled and wouldn’t let go. Thankfully it didn’t rip through but it was so painful that I took my earrings out and didn’t wear any again for months. Then my sweet hubby gave me some diamond earrings for Mother’s Day and much to my dismay, I couldn’t wear them because my holes closed up! I keep meaning to go to Claire’s and just never got around to it. Fast forward two years to this month. I finally bit the bullet. I’m currently rocking the Claire’s special but hopefully I’ll be sporting other styles soon!
What I’m Reading: I finished reading The Paris Architect and loved it so much that I wanted to try another title from the same author, Charles Belfour. So I am reading House of Thieves right now. It’s a historical fiction novel as well but not a World War II novel. This one is set in New York in the late 1800s. I am about half way through and I’m enjoying it, but not quite as much as The Paris Architect. But I do recommend you add House of Thieves to your Kindle queue.
What I’m Watching: I finally convinced hubby to read Killing Pablo and once he finished it we started watching Narcos. If you aren’t familiar, Pablo is Pablo Escobar, the Columbian cocaine cartel kingpin. He basically was responsible for the introduction of cocaine into the United States via Miami in the late 1970s. The story of his rise, reign and fall is fascinating and an eye-opening glimpse into the drug smuggling world and the US involvement. The book is non-fiction by the same author as Black Hawk Down.
The Netflix original, Narcos is a dramatization of actual events and not based off the Killing Pablo book. But, I think it’s great to read the book first because you get so much more background information. We have really been enjoying the series. It’s only in Season 1 and has 10 episodes so you aren’t too far behind. As you can imagine, Pablo Escobar’s life revolved around drugs, sex and violence and all are depicted in the show. It’s definitely one to watch after the kids go to bed.
What I’m Loving: Cetaphil. So one day I was complaining to one of my friends that my legs always get so dry in the winter time and shaving my legs can be so painful and often makes it worse. She told me that she read on Pioneer Woman years ago about shaving with Cetaphil instead of shaving cream. She started and never went back. So I thought, “What the heck.” and I started. And y’all. My legs feel so.much.better. Just trust me on this one and reach for Cetaphil next time instead Skintimate.
Any plans for Valentine’s Day? What are you loving right now? Any favorite things I need to check out? You can also check out previous editions of Shellie Unplugged here.
