This Perfect Homemade Granola is so easy and inexpensive to make! No longer will you have to justify $3 – $6 a bag/box for granola at the store. Use a few simple ingredients that you most likely have in your pantry. Then mix, bake and add to your favorite yogurt, oatmeal or pack as a summer snack.

How yummy would this be with dried peaches or bananas? YUM!

Author: Shellie Deringer - SimplyShellie.com
Ingredients
  • 4 C. Rolled Oats (old fashioned, not quick cooking)
  • 1 ½ C. Chopped Nuts (I used walnuts, almonds and pecans) – you can use any that you have on hand.
  • 4 Tbs. Brown Sugar
  • 1 tsp. Cinnamon
  • ⅛ tsp. Nutmeg
  • 2 tsp. Vanilla Extract
  • ⅓ C. Honey
  • ⅓ C. Vegetable Oil
  • ¾ C. Dried Fruit (optional – I did not use)
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees.
  2. Combine all the dry ingredients and mix well.
  3. In a small separate bowl, combine the oil, honey and vanilla extract mixing well.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients over the dry ingredients and mix well completely coating the oats, and nuts.
  5. Pour the mixture out onto a non-greased baking sheet and spread evenly. Bake 30-40 minutes, stirring every 5-10 minutes so it doesn't burn.
  6. *Makes approximately 6 cups of granola. Store in an airtight container 2-3 weeks.

I love making my own granola – so much less expensive than buying it and I think it tastes better. Thanks for the recipe. Pinned it.

I just got into making granola and picked this recipe for my first attempt. I bought a yogurt maker 3 years ago and just started making vegan yogurt a couple of months ago. It’s so easy and delicious, I could kick myself for waiting so long. Now that I’m making yogurt, I HAD to make granola to go with it. My brown sugar was hard and I didn’t think to soften it before I made this, so I used Coconut Sugar instead. I also used freshly grated nutmeg … that stuff is DA BOMB. Instead of 1½ cups of nuts, I used 1/2 cup pepitas, 1/2 cup raw unsalted sunflower seeds, and 1/2 cup chopped raw pecans. I did add fruit … 1/4 cup golden raisins, 1/4 cup mixed dried fruit, and 1/4 cup chopped dried bing cherries. I eat vegan (mostly) so I used agave instead of honey. I may use maple syrup next time. 🙂 Thanks for a great recipe! This will be wonderful with my yogurt! I take it to work for a nice healthy lunch. 🙂
