Ingredients
- 1 C. Coconut Oil
- ½ C. Brown Sugar
- ¼ C. Honey
- 4-5 4 oz. Jelly Jars
Instructions
- In a medium size bowl, combine the coconut oil, brown sugar, honey and mix well.
- Add the scrub to your 4 oz. Jelly jars.
- Makes 4-5 4 oz. Jelly jars.
- Stored in an airtight container, the scrub will last for about 6 months. If there is any separation simply stir the mixture. Coconut Oil solidifies under 65 degrees, you can warm in microwave for a few seconds if it solidifies. Remove the metal ring and lid before warming.

I tried this and the coconut oil would not incorporate into the sugar/honey mixture. I’ve very disappointed. Any hints on how to fix this??
Yes, Try warming the coconut oil first before you mix into sugar mixture. Put 1 cup of coconut oil into a microwave safe bowl and heat on high in 30 second increments until it’s liquid. Add to other ingredients until you get the texture/consistency that you like. You can add less oil for a sandlike consistency or more oil for a fluid consistency.
It corporate very easily into the honey and sugar for me.
How do you use this scrub? Do you shower and lather first or use it before your body wash? I have never used a body scrub before so I would like to know how to do it properly, do you use it with a brush or sponge? Thank you
I just use my bare hands and rub it on. I use it after my body wash or in lieu of body wash. Raw honey is antimicrobial.
Hi Shellie. This is also my first time. You saying you use it after your body wash means you use it and then rinse it off for a few minutes right in the shower right? So after wards do you apply moisturizer on your body before stepping out to work or ?
Do you have to wash again with soap after you put the scrub on your body??
I don’t. I just rinse it off. if you use soap it will strip the moisturizing oil right off.
In addition to Sylvia’s ^ question, how often should you use it?
I use it nearly every day. Sometimes on my whole body, other times just my arms or legs, sometimes my face.
Shellie,
I made this about a week ago and absolutely love it. It was going to be my next post of pinterest things that I have tried. I’ll link it back to your site for the recipe. Love it!
Yay! I’m so glad you liked it. It’s one of my favorites too.
Shellie I have concerns about using it as a body wash. I use it for pulling and everything I read is to not let it go down the drain.I belive It will plug your drains like any other oils or grease. Have you had any issues with it plugging your drains?
Cindy, that’s a VERY valid concern. Coconut Oil can be deceiving because it’s liquid when warm and hard as a rock when cold. The best bet if you are seeing slow drainage is to pour boiling water down the drain to help flush it out. If you have older pipes or are concerned, try using coconut oil just once in a while and not every day. Or try a method like lotion or eye cream that doesn’t need to go down the pipes at all.
Love it!!! I make this frequently with ALL organic ingredients, of course (honey, if not organic, is likely to contain a high concentration of pesticides) for personal use, and my friends!! One of my favs, for sure!!!! Thank you for posting, Amy.
could you use grape seed oil instead of coconut oil?
Sure! Grape seed oil is also excellent for skin!
I love the sound of the recipe but i havent made it yet 😀
do you recommend washing hair using this body scrub or not?
I wouldn’t. It’s easy to make sure you got it all off your face. And it you missed a spot and it’s sticky, it’s easy to get off. Not so much in your hair.
I have acne prone skin, I bought raw honey from the store . Will it be ok to still use with brown sugar for a face scrub?
I’m wondering, can you add an essential out, like tea tree essential oil, to this mixture?
I kept trying this recipe but could not get the consistency I wanted. Tried liquid coconut oil and grape seed oil, I finally tried using a jar of organic refined coconut oil and it came out a lot better…
