There are two kinds of coconut oil: Fractioned and Unfractioned. Fractioned coconut oil is always in liquid form. It can be found with other natural health & beauty products. At my store it’s over by the essential oils, homeopathic nutritional supplements and vitamins. Unfractioned coconut oil is the oil that is in a solid state below 76 degrees and in a liquid state above 76 degrees. You typically find this on the cooking and baking aisle.

You can use unfractioned coconut oil to make homemade scrubs (I totally do!) but yes, it tends to be difficult to mix in solid form. There are two things you can do. 1) Put your pyrex cup in a bowl of warm water. As you scoop the solid oil into the cup, it will gradually melt. This will also help you ensure you are measuring the proper amount. Or 2) Use your mixer to combine the ingredients. By using the mixer to stir the solid coconut oil, it gives it more of a whipped texture. The heat from the mixer will also melt the oil a little. Hope that helps!

You can use either. But if you use fresh grated ginger, you will need to use the scrub within 2 weeks.

Just tried making and used olive oil (only one I had). Was not happy with scent. I didn’t smell any of the other spices in the mix. 🙁 I would recommend using coconut oil for this. I did use on my hands, but the oil felt heavy. is there something else I am missing

Olive Oil has a pretty strong scent so it may have overpowered the other scents in the scrub. You could try to use a different, more mild oil like grapeseed or coconut. And if it’s not gingerbread-y enough for you, just add more spices or essential oils.
