If you have ever walked down the yarn aisle at your local craft store, you may have seen how many gorgeous colors and styles there are to choose from. Even if you are not a knitter or person who crochets, did you know that you can put that yarn to good use other ways?
A yarn wrapped wreath is so simple to make, and you can do one with just a few simple supplies. Take a look below at how to make your own easy DIY holiday yarn wreath and in no time you can be enjoying some frugal décor for less.
- Foam wreath form
- Assorted Floral Picks
- Hot glue, Glue gun
1. You want to begin by wrapping your yarn around your wreath. Do this in a clockwise direction starting at 12 o’clock. Simply hold a piece to the form with your thumb and start wrapping, pulling tightly as you go. Wrap so that the pieces of yarn are laying as closely to each other as possible. If you want, you can even alternate colors of yarn as we did or use all of one color. When you stop one color just secure the piece in place with a small dab of glue then start the next.
2. Continue wrapping until your entire wreath form is covered. Go back and adjust any yarn as needed to fill in any missed spots.
3. Now comes the fun part of decorating your wreath. We used hot glue and glued on small swags and picks of holiday color. You can find these in all colors and varieties at your local craft store. Use floral pieces, faux candy pieces, colorful leaves, glittery gumdrops, etc. This is the part where you get to be creative and add picks that work for you.
4. At the top of your wreath, you can either leave it plain or add a bow. We used a wide, wired line ribbon for ours. We made a fun bow out of it by wrapping pieces of it around a glass for some volume then securing all of them in the center for a nice full bow. Again, you can opt for a simple bow tied, or even buy a premade bow. Attach your bow with hot glue so it stays nice and firmly in place. When you are ready to hang your wreath, we suggest using a wreath hanger that goes over the door. This will offer it the most support. Or, you can simply hang it over a hook, nail, etc. The lightweight foam makes it easy on your walls.
That’s all there is to making your own yarn wrapped wreath. So head to your local craft store and grab some colorful yarn choices to get started. Once you make one, you will find yourself making more!
