Dollar Store DIY: Fun Fall Area Rug
While we decorate our homes for the holidays, one area we might tend to overlook is the floor. This year, give your flooring a little fall flare with a fun area rug instead. This fun fall area rug idea is a perfect way to give your floors some love while having some crafting fun at the same time. Take a look at how with a few dollar store supplies, you can make your own!
Supplies:
- Carpet square
- Fabric Paint
- Hot glue, glue gun
- Felt leaf
For our sample picture, we were able to find all of these items at our local dollar store. Carpet squares can be found at Dollar Tree or for rather inexpensively at carpet supply stores. The large felt leaf was actually a place mat that we decided to use in a different and fun way.
Directions:
- Begin by applying some glue to the back of your felt leaf. Press it to the area rug and hold it into place until it has adhered well. You may wish to place some heavy books on top so that the weight can assist you with this.
- Now, using fabric paint you can add any words or saying you wish. We went with a simple “Fall” motif, but you can add your family name or other wording that suits you. Practice on paper before hand because once you start writing it is hard to fix any mistakes.
- Allow plenty of time for the fabric paint to dry before you display it. A good 24 hours is typically required. Don’t rush it, or you could quickly ruin your hard work.
Place your frugal fall area rug in an entry way, by your fireplace tile, or even in a bathroom. It is a fun way to add autumn charm to an otherwise forgotten area!
