Creamy Jalapeno Hummus Recipe

Jalapeno Hummus

Now that July is over we are slowly heading into Fall. This season is one of my favorite because you still get to enjoy the late summer barbecues and pool parties but also gear up for tailgate parties and football gatherings. It seems like there’s a party every weekend which is the perfect excuse to make my Creamy Jalapeno Hummus recipe!

The only downside to party, party, party is the food! Party food, while delicious, isn’t always the best for your waistline. So when we head to a barbecue I love to fix wholesome snacks that I feel good about eating, like this Creamy Jalapeno Hummus recipe. And when my dish comes home empty it reminds me that healthy snacks can be just as delicious!

Living in Texas we love spicy food. Even my kids love to eat hot sauce and spicy seasonings. So I love to give traditional hummus a fun kick with some jalapeños! My husband really dislikes regular hummus. He claims it is gritty and bland. He had one bite of this Creamy Jalapeno Hummus recipe and was sold. I’ve been making it ever since!

JalapenoHummusIngredients

The secret ingredient to this Creamy Jalapeno Hummus recipe is Yoplait® Greek Yogurt! It gives the hummus a little more creaminess and makes the consistency more like a traditional party dip. For my husband, that makes it a winner. Then add in some diced jalapeno to give it some kick and you will have the best dish at the party. Of course, you can omit the jalapeños and still have wonderfully creamy hummus. I just personally prefer the kick of the jalapeños! Pull out your food processor and whip this up in seconds.

Ingredients
  • 6oz of Yoplait® Greek Yogurt - Plain
  • 1 can Garbanzo Beans (drained)
  • ½ can of diced Jalapeños
  • 3 cloves Garlic
  • Juice from 1 Lemon
  • 1½ teaspoon Olive Oil
  • Salt & Pepper to taste
Instructions
  1. Add the garbanzo beans, Greek yogurt, olive oil and lemon juice to your food processor and blend until smooth.
  2. Add 3 cloves garlic and jalapeños and bend again until smooth. If you want more mild flavor, use ¼ can or omit the jalapeños entirely. For extra hot, add the whole can!
  3. Add salt and pepper to taste
  4. Refrigerate for an hour before serving.

I just wanted to note one thing. The plain variety of Yoplait® Greek Yogurt can be tough to find.  It’s exclusively at Walmart and only the larger stores carry it. If you can’t find the Yoplait® Plain Greek Yogurt, you can swap it for Yoplait® Greek Lemon. Just don’t grab Lemon Meringue!

Hummus was always one of those things that I WANTED to like but I always thought it was too bland, also. I can’t wait to try this out!
