We love these Summer Haircare Tips to help your hair look fabulous all summer long. Simple ways to help your hair beat the heat.
Let’s face it ladies. Summer is hard on our hair. The heat, the sun, the chlorine…it all takes it toll. So today I partnered with Garnier and Dollar General to share with you some summer haircare tips to help you save your hair this summer. There’s no reason your hair can’t look fabulous all summer long!
Start Summer with a Trim
Summer tends to dry out hair and that damaged hair splits creating those unhealthy ends we all dread. Head to your hairdresser at the very beginning of the summer and get a quick trim to start off summer with the healthiest, freshest ends possible. If you really have a problem with split ends in the summer, try visiting your stylist monthly for just a teensy trim to keep your ends fresh and keep split ends under control.
Cover Your Hair
This is the easiest of the summer haircare tips. Throw on a hat! Use a hat or a scarf to protect your hair from harmful UV rays. The sun doesn’t just take it’s toll on your skin, it can make your hair dry and coarse. The sun pulls moisture out of your hair which can lead to dry, frizzy hair. Combat this by wearing a sun hat or headscarf. There are so many cute options these days, it should be simple to find something you love.
Wet Your Hair First
Hair is a bit like a sponge. It soaks up all the moisture around it when wet. But then once it’s wet, there’s not much room for new moisture. So before you head to the beach or the pool, rinse your hair. Most pools and beaches have outdoor showers you can use for a quick rinse. If your hair is wet with plain, clean water you won’t have to worry about it absorbing too much of the chlorine or saltwater when you swim.
Wash Your Hair
I know everyone loves Dry Shampoo. It’s been probably one of the greatest Health and Beauty inventions on recent years. It makes going from a lake day to a happy hour oh-so-easy. But in the summertime, go easy on the dry shampoo. It’s just that, DRY. You need to make sure you are washing your hair regularly to remove product residue, sweat and oils and also to nourish your hair. For a shampoo you feel comfortable using every day, try Garnier Whole Blends Honey Treasures Repairing Shampoo. It’s paraben-free, enriched with a natural blend and gentle for everyday use.
Conditioner for hair is like lotion for skin. When your hair is dry and frizzy, a conditioning treatment can work wonders. In the shower, don’t skip the conditioner. Instead, add it to your hair and let it sit for a bit. I usually let mine sit on my hair while I shave my legs. Then rinse it out. This gives your hair the moisture it needs and lets it really soak in to help moisturize those dry locks! I like to use the Garnier Whole Blends Honey Treasures Repairing Conditioner. It’s a creamy, lush formula that strengthens hair and helps prevent split ends & breakage. Plus the fragrance of royal jelly, honey & propolis leaves your hair smelling amazing.
Let it Air Dry
I know everyone wants their hair to look perfect. We blow dry it, flat iron it and use tons of product to make it look just right every day. In the summertime, combining all the other hair stressors along with heat from your styling tools can really wreak havoc on your hair. Whenever possible let your hair air dry and skip the flat iron. Your hair will thank you and you can take it as an opportunity to try out a fun new style like a simple braid or beachy waves.
Use a Hair Mask
Remember when I mentioned above that conditioner for hair is like lotion for skin? Sometimes our skin needs extra moisturizing so we slather on the extra thick lotion to really go the extra mile. Well, hair is the exact same! Sometimes it needs a little help beyond traditional conditioner. This is where the hair mask comes in. I love the Garnier Whole Blends Repairing Mask Honey Treasures for Damaged Hair. After shampooing, apply a generous amount of treatment to hair. Gently work through hair, paying special attention to the ends. Wait 3 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. My ends have been really dry this summer and this Garnier Whole Blends Repairing Mask has worked wonders. I use it once a week.
Follow these simple summer haircare tips and your hair will be as gorgeous as ever by summer’s end.
